A collaboration between Johns Hopkins HealthCare Solutions and BehaVR, LLC, CenteredVR gradually guides users into a soothing, immersive virtual reality environment that helps alleviate stress through educational elements and mindfulness practices. CenteredVR teaches users to optimize their stress responses, becoming less reactive and more resilient to stressors, mitigating the negative effects of chronic stress.
For decades, mindfulness-based interventions have been touted as promising means of alleviating chronic stress. Indeed, a “substantial body of scientific evidence has amassed to indicate that the practice of mindfulness can modulate a range of behavioral and neurobiological elements implicated in adaptive stress coping.” Featuring Neda F. Gould, Ph.D., director of the Mindfulness Program at Johns Hopkins, CenteredVR makes mindfulness experientially available at scale using the neurological and psychological power of virtual reality.
In six 20-minute sessions, users learn new resilience and coping skills to manage stressors in their lives more effectively.
Additionally, this progressive and personalized VR experience allows users to track progress from beginning to end with assessments that include the Perceived Stress Scale. This information is collected via BehaVR’s secure, HIPAA-compliant cloud, allowing for EMR integration.
