Mia Smith received her B.A. in Clinical Psychology magna cum laude from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, where she was also a member of Skidmore’s Periclean Honors Forum. A VR developer, AI enthusiast, and lifelong fine artist and musician, Mia uses her creative passions and academic interests to discover ways immersive technology can improve our quality of life.
During Mia’s time at Skidmore, she completed two memorable internships: the first at the Four Winds Saratoga Catlin children’s unit, and the second co-creating art therapy workshops for adolescents at the Saratoga C.R.E.A.T.E. Community Studios. She was a member of two student-faculty psychology research labs, focusing on music cognition and researching barriers to anxiety treatment, and served as the Vice President of the Active Minds Mental Awareness Club. Mia is also a proud member of the Psi Chi International Honor Society in Psychology and the American Psychological Association.
In the larger technology community, Mia hosts AltspaceVR events every Saturday that gather XR enthusiasts to share ideas, learn skills, and make connections. The channel hosts featured speakers to discuss their inspiring work in the field, and also holds group discussions and debates surrounding current topics in technology.
Mia’s long-term goal is to create experiences that inspire others to become the best version of themselves. She is a passionate advocate for reducing barriers to mental health treatment, and with the rapid advancement of healthcare technology, she is excited to be part of this world-changing movement with BehaVR.
